Why is there a Father's Day?

Father's Day is the third Sunday in June. On that day, dad will be put in the spotlight. He doesn't have to do anything this day. The children take care of father that day. To thank Dad for being there for them all year round. Father's Day is a holiday in honor of all fathers.
Fun fact: in Belgium, Father's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of June.

The first Father's Day took place in the USA in 1910.

Father's Day in the Netherlands

Father's Day spread to Europe. In the Netherlands, the idea of Father's Day was embraced in the 1930s, even though the day still fell in October. In 1948 it was decided to move the day to June 'following America's lead'. October was too close to holidays such as Sinterklaas and Christmas, causing Father's Day to get snowed under. The initiative for the date change of Dutch Father's Day was taken by the Dutch Association of Men's Fashion Retailers, who wanted to keep in line with other countries. Almost all over the world Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June, but not everywhere. In Belgium, Father's Day is a week earlier.
