Is the wine still drinkable?
While no one can predict the exact taste of an old wine, there is one thing we can say with certainty: a bottle from an excellent château, an excellent region and a top vintage is a gift that offers lasting value.

Indeed, good cellaring wines tend to reach their optimal taste after about 20 years, and then decline in quality, but that does not mean that their value disappears. On the contrary, old wines are becoming increasingly rare and sought after, resulting in a steady increase in their prices.

An old wine is not just a gift, it is an investment in the future. It is a tangible piece of history that only becomes more valuable with time. It is a gift that brings back memories and can provide financial returns at the same time.

Just like the time it takes to make good wine, each wine has its own lifespan. Young wines that you find in the supermarket often have a shelf life of 1-3 years. High-quality wines offer longer enjoyment, but even they are not drinkable for life. That is the natural order of things in the world of wine – a work of art that evolves and transforms with time. 🍇🍷

Why are old vintages so pricey?

An old wine is an exclusive gift because of its rarity. Despite the possibility that the wine is no longer optimal, it becomes scarcer over the years, making it a true collector's item. It is not only a gift, but also a smart investment for the future, as its value continues to increase over time.

Do you also purchase wine from private individuals?
We do not purchase wines from private individuals. We often receive questions about the value of wine found in the cupboard or upon death. We are unable to accurately assess these wines and cannot provide information about their value. Our focus is on carefully selected wines from reliable sources, allowing us to guarantee quality and authenticity. Thank you for your understanding.
I have a wine at home, what is its value?
We cannot make valuations for questions about individual wines from personal belongings or estates. Thank you for understanding.
How to uncork an old wine?

Welcome to the intriguing world of old wines, where every bottle tells a story and every sip is a journey through time. But before you pull the cork out of these precious treasures, there are some crucial things you need to know.

Old wines have a peculiar character – the question of whether they are still drinkable remains like a mysterious veil. The cork, which becomes porous over the years, adds an extra layer of complexity. If you make the decision to take the chance and uncork the wine, it is vital to use the right tools. Don't reach for the regular home-garden corkscrew; This can quickly destroy the fragile cork. Instead, use a waiter's lever corkscrew that works with precision and keeps the cork intact.

When preparing an aged wine for consumption, planning is essential. Always leave the wine to keep the cork moist, but about 2-3 days before opening, place the bottle upright. This allows any sediment to settle, contributing to a clearer experience.

Another crucial aspect of preserving aged wines is the storage environment. Absolutely do not store them in the refrigerator, as this can disrupt the delicate taste. A wine cellar or a special climate chamber is necessary to maintain optimal conditions. Old wines are like fine works of art; their quality can deteriorate quickly if not stored with care.

So, as you immerse yourself in the world of ancient wines, remember that the art of uncorking is not just an act, but a delicate ritual. Once unveiled, each bottle opens a window into the past, where careful storage and handling make the difference between a great experience or a disappointment.
